Wild Hearts, Big Feelings 💛🎨 📍 Session Details 📅 Sunday 15th February 📍 The Picturedrome Ages 4–7: 10–11am (10 children) Ages 8–11: 11:30am–12:30pm (10 children) Children have big feelings. Glorious ones. Awkward ones. Loud ones. The sort that arrive without warning and refuse to leave quietly. Wild Hearts, Big Feelings is an art session that doesn't try to tidy those feelings up or send them away with a stern talk and a sticker chart. Instead, we give them paint. And collage. And permission. Inspired by the fearless, unibrow-rocking brilliance of Frida Kahlo, children will create a mixed-media portrait that shows who they really are on the inside... using colour, texture, symbols, and whatever else wants to join the party. We're not here to copy Frida (the woman had enough imitators). We're here to borrow her courage. Her refusal to shrink. Her bone-deep belief that feelings are worth putting on the page. This is art for children who feel deeply, quietly, confidently, chaotically - or all of the above before lunchtime. 🌪️ No pressure. No "right way". Just space to be seen. 🎨 What We'll Be Doing ✨ Creating a mixed-media self-portrait using paint, collage and drawing ✨ Exploring how colour, symbols and textures can represent feelings ✨ Making a small "Big Feelings" tile to take home, with the option to contribute one to our collective Wild Hearts display ✨ Learning that art can be a powerful, joyful, gloriously messy way to express emotions No pressure to share. No forced circle time confessions. Just a warm, creative space where children can be themselves, whoever that happens to be today. 🌈 Ages 4–7: Gentle, Playful & Sensory This session is all about exploration and choice. Think less "follow the instructions," more "what happens if I put that colour there?" Children will be supported to: 💙 Use colour freely to express feelings (purple sadness? green joy? yes) 💙 Paint faces in imaginative, non-realistic ways (three eyes? go for it) 💙 Add simple symbols like flowers, animals and shapes 💙 Talk about feelings in a relaxed, age-appropriate way - no therapy-speak, just kindness I'll guide and support with lots of reassurance, encouragement, and zero judgment. 🔥 Ages 8–11: Expressive, Thoughtful & Confidence-Building Older children get the chance to dig a little deeper into self-expression - not because they have to, but because they can. They will: 🧡 Create layered portraits using mixed media (paint! collage! drama!) 🧡 Use symbols and background colours to represent emotions and identity 🧡 Explore how art can tell personal stories without saying a single word 🧡 Build confidence in their own creative voice - the one that doesn't sound like anyone else's There's space for reflection, independence and individuality. No comparison. No competition.
